Why is the story of rabbit hole so loved?

Most of us have read the book  Alice in wonderland at some point in our lives. It could be because your mother was reading it for you when you were a kid or maybe your friend suggested it to you in school or you yourself may have read it for your kids.

So what is this ado about? It is that, what makes the story of Alice so compelling even for adults? let’s go down the rabbit hole once again.

  1. Opening sentence of the book is

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, “and what is the use of a book,” thought Alice, “without pictures or conversations?”

As you can see it is a satire about children books which contain long paragraphs without any pictures or conversations. That’s it. The author got you, there itself.

  2. Alice and her way of thinking reminds you of your childhood. The story is so imaginative and language is so simple.
  3. The rabbit hole itself is very interesting because like life you do not know what you are going to expect from it. But still you move forward and enjoy the journey.
  4. In the middle of the book a bird talks in English with difficult words and other bird asks him that whether she herself was able to understand what she is talking. This is also an observation about books with difficult words.
  5. Subtle humour: Like “Lessons lessen everyday which is why there are called lessons”.

It is a great book because it is not only funny but also a satire and thoughtful.
